If you're a T-Mobile subscriber, there is speculation that before the year is out, you will have the chance to purchase a rugged handset that will be able to survive your butterfingers. The Kyocera DuraForce Pro is the handset that we're talking about. Thanks to a military standard 810G certificate and an IP68 rating, the phone can survive drops, thermal shock, salt, humidity, and solar radiation. It also will be able to get submerged in up to five feet of water for as long as 30 minutes, and emerge unscathed.
The DuraForce Pro is expected to feature a dual camera setup on back with one of the modules offering wide-angle snapshots and underwater video. The other module is 13MP, and you'll find that a 5MP snapper graces the front of the phone for selfies and video chats. A fingerprint sensor will be on board, and the phone is said to be powered by a 3420mAh battery.
The device uses a UI similar to stock Android. The body of the phone is not what you would call glamorous, but this is a rugged phone after all. If a phone like the DuraForce Pro interests you, it means that you probably care about function over form.
There is no word on when we might see the DuraForce Pro offered by the nation's third largest carrier, although the fourth quarter has been bandied about. That would make the device available to T-Mobile subscribers during the holiday shopping season. It would be a great gift for the smartphone owner who just can't keep a hold on his or her handset, even if that person is yourself.
The rugged Kyocera DuraFore Pro is expected to hit T-Mobile before the end of the year
